Infuses oxygen into Lake Aartal
In the picturesque town of Lich, located in the GieΓen district, two local water bodies, the Licher Waldsee and the Aartalsee, have recently come under scrutiny due to the presence of blue-green algae.
The Licher Waldsee, managed by the Waldschwimmbad Lich e.V., has been a popular swimming spot for many, despite the visible green streaks of blue-green algae on its surface. However, Johannes Siefert, a member of the association, asserts that the intake facility in operation daily at the Waldschwimmbad Lich e.V. has been effective in maintaining the water quality, removing brown algae, green algae, and debris such as leaves or pollen.
Contrastingly, the Aartalsee, another local lake, is currently facing a more severe threat from blue-green algae. In response to this, the THW Dillenburg has initiated measures to pump oxygen into the water to mitigate the issue. Unfortunately, the fish population in the Aartalsee is under threat, and the government presidency of GieΓen has confirmed that the bathing ban remains in effect for the lake.
Despite the presence of blue-green algae in the Licher Waldsee, no immediate threat to its fish population has been reported. However, the district of GieΓen has advised against bathing in the Licher Waldsee, echoing the signs put up by the swimming pool association in Lich.
It is essential to note that the responsible authority for measures to eliminate blue-green algae in any given water body typically falls under the jurisdiction of the local environmental or water management agency of the city or district where the body of water is located.
As the summer season approaches, it is crucial for residents and visitors alike to be mindful of the current state of local water bodies and follow the advice of local authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience.
