"Initiative Kickoff: 'Navigating Aging Years' Month"

The city of Marburg is gearing up for an exciting month of activities aimed at promoting health and combating loneliness. From September 1st to October 1st, 2025, the city will host the Action Month "Move into Age."

The detailed program and action calendar for the Action Month can be found at www.bewegt-ins-alter.de. The month-long event is organized by the city of Marburg, local clubs, and the Marburg Volunteer Agency (FAM).

The Action Month kicks off with a 3,000-step walk led by Mayor Dr. Thomas Spies on September 1st. Over 200 offers are part of the Action Month's program, including sports, lectures, and interactive activities.

Activities offered include walks, self-defense, yoga, ball sports, various forms of gymnastics, Nordic walking, rowing, dragon boat paddling, hiking, and various forms of dancing. Interactive activities with prize drawings are also part of the Action Month's program.

One such interactive activity is the "Schritte-Challenge," where team participation is possible via the "Teamfit" app. Participants can collect points and go into a draw for a prize. The prize-giving ceremony for both the action card draw and the "Schritte-Challenge" will take place during the dance festival on October 1st.

Prof. Dr. Ralf Laging, a professor of sports and movement pedagogy at Philipps University Marburg, will give a lecture on "Movement knows no age - everyday life as an opportunity" on September 4th at 5 pm at BiP.

The program aims to promote health maintenance and combat loneliness. Inclusive hiking is part of the Action Month's program, ensuring that activities are open to people of all ages, fitness levels, and previous experience.

The cross-generational "Talk and Walk" on the topic "What moves us in everyday life?" is also part of the Action Month's program. The moving lunch break is included in the Action Month's events, providing opportunities for participants to socialize and connect.

The Action Month is themed around the idea that "Movement knows no age." The month will culminate with a generation dance festival on October 1st, featuring guided dances, information stands of the Marburg dance scene, and an open dance party.

A highlight of the Action Month is the film "Ice Aged," which will be shown at the Capitol Cinema on September 10th, at 5 pm, about older people trying ice skating.

The organizations participating in the "Bewegt ins Alter" campaign week in Marburg in September 2025 include ABC (a local club with various activity groups), the Freiwilligenagentur Marburg (Volunteer Agency), Familienbildungsstätte Marburg, vhs Marburg and vhs Marburg-Biedenkopf (adult education centers), Jugendbildungswerk Marburg, FD Partizipation, Ehrenamt und Sport Marburg-Biedenkopf (Department for Participation, Volunteering, and Sports), the City of Marburg's Bürgerbeteiligung office (Citizen Participation), and the Koordinierungsstelle für Flüchtlingsinitiativen (Coordination Office for Refugee Initiatives).
