Over the next few days, parts of Baden-Württemberg are bracing themselves for a bout of severe weather. The German Weather Service has issued a localized severe weather alert, particularly for the eastern part of the state.

On Thursday afternoon, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the region, starting from the southwest and moving northeast. Cities such as Stuttgart, regions of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest), the Albhochfläche (Swabian Jura plateau), Oberschwaben (Upper Swabia), and the Bodensee area could be affected.

The Black Forest mountains could experience storm gusts up to 85 km/h, while other elevated areas may see strong gusts of up to 60 km/h. These gusts could potentially blow around smaller objects in gardens and cause disruption.

The heavy rain is expected to fall in showers, with some areas experiencing up to 40 liters of rain per square meter in just one hour. Overnight, this could increase to as much as 60 liters per square meter within three to six hours. This heavy rain could potentially lead to flooding in some basements.

On Monday evening, heavy rain and severe weather in southern Oberschwaben led to about 4 dozen deployments by the fire department in the Bodenseekreis. Basements flooded, trees were uprooted, and in some places, the roadways were underwater.

Despite the potential for severe weather, a severe weather warning has not been issued. The heavy rain and thunderstorms do not constitute a severe weather warning, but the public is advised to stay vigilant and prepared.

As we move into the weekend, the weather is expected to improve. Friday morning will start off with many clouds, but the sun will break through later in the day. The weekend is expected to start off with mostly clear skies and only scattered clouds.

Stay tuned for updates on the developing weather situation in Baden-Württemberg.
