intensifying conflict on October 7th of next year: Israel persists in unrest

In a previous opinion piece published in The Spire, the question was posed: "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. Free from what? Free from whom? And by what means?" In response to the article titled "One Year from October Seventh: Israel Fights On", it seems appropriate to now...

intensifying conflict on October 7th of next year: Israel persists in unrest

In the pages of The Spire, Todd Rado '26, a guest writer and Moroccan-Sephardic Jew with family in Tel Aviv, has taken on the role of Opinions Editor. Rado, who has previously penned articles such as "In Defense of Uncivil Politics", "What if Kamala Won?", and "Socialism Was a Resounding Success!", now turns his attention to the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

Rado, who has been accused of having Communist sympathies, does not mince words in his latest piece. He argues that Israel's actions in the 1948 war, including the mass targeting and expulsion of innocent lives, were unjustified. He also speaks out against Israel's Dahiya doctrine, which justifies the disproportionate use of force and targeting of civilians.

Rado's article does not seem to be directed towards Trump voters, but rather is a call for factual awareness and understanding of the situation in Gaza. He clarifies that he does not wish to start a debate, but to present the facts about the crisis.

One of the most pressing issues Rado addresses is the Israeli blockade of Gaza, which, according to Amnesty International, is illegal and inhumane. The blockade has led to the closure of Gaza's universities and the systematic starvation of its population. Before the genocide began, 97% of water in the Gaza Strip was undrinkable.

Rado also sheds light on the political landscape, explaining that Hamas did not want war and rejected the Biden-suggested Ceasefire plan in May, which was based on their own draft from February. If the genocide were to end by the end of this year, about 10% of the Gazan population would end up dead, both due to direct Israeli violence and the manufactured conditions in the strip.

In conclusion, Rado's article is a powerful plea for the dismantling of the apartheid Zionist regime and the restoration of Palestinian human dignity. He speaks on behalf of his compatriots and calls for a more just and equitable solution to the crisis in Gaza.
