The weather in Baden-Württemberg is set to undergo a significant change this weekend, with a calm period expected by Sunday, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). However, the weekend will start with a bout of severe weather, particularly affecting the southwestern to central northern regions.

The DWD forecasts heavy thunderstorms and strong winds, with risks of intense rain and wind gusts up to Beaufort scale 8. This could potentially cause tree damage. The precise location of the severe weather is difficult to predict, but it is expected around Lake Constance, Upper Swabia, the central Alb, and the Ostalb from late afternoon onwards, potentially continuing into the night towards Friday.

Severe weather, including thunderstorms, heavy rain, hurricane-like gusts, and hail, could hit these areas. The weather on Friday will begin with cloudy skies, showers, and individual thunderstorms moving eastwards. The wind on this day will be mostly moderate but can be stormy during thunderstorms.

The highest temperatures on Friday will be between 15 degrees in the mountains and up to 22 degrees in the Kraichgau. Strong rain showers are most likely south of the Danube towards Lake Constance. The severe weather should then move towards Bavaria.

On Saturday, after early fog, the sun will shine widely with only a few clouds in the sky. Many areas should experience sunny periods, especially from the west. Temperatures on Saturday will rise to pleasant 20 to 25 degrees. The cold front will move eastwards during Friday, and gradually drier and slightly cooler air will follow.

The good news is that the weather is expected to calm down significantly towards the weekend, with Sunday bringing mostly clear and dry conditions. High temperatures are predicted to reach up to 29 degrees.

The weather in Baden-Württemberg is being influenced by a southwesterly flow of moist, warm Mediterranean air. The forecast for heavy rainfall has been revised due to more recent data, according to Sebastian Schappert from the DWD. However, the impact of heavy rain depends on where it falls and how it can drain locally, and cannot be precisely predicted.

Linda Noel, a DWD meteorologist, also noted that the precise location of the severe weather is difficult to predict. She urged residents to stay updated with the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions during the severe weather period.
