International Aid Convoy for Gaza is deemed unnecessary, according to Thunberg's stance

The UN's recent declaration of a famine in Gaza has added a sense of urgency to the Global Sumud Flotilla's mission. This latest solidarity mission, expected to be the largest in history, is led by the independent organisation, Global Sumud Flotilla.

The flotilla's aim is to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and open a humanitarian corridor, ending Israel's illegal and inhumane siege on the region. The Global Sumud Flotilla describes itself as a peaceful organisation, with the 22-year-old Swedish campaigner joining the group on Sunday.

The Israeli authorities have issued furious denials in response to the UN's declaration. In previous attempts, Israeli troops have boarded the vessels, detained the activists, and expelled them. Two such attempts to deliver aid by ship to Gaza were blocked by Israel in June and July, with Greta Thunberg among the 12 activists on board the June flotilla.

The Global Sumud Flotilla's members believe that boats from ports around the world will converge on Gaza for their mission. The exact departure date and number of boats for the latest flotilla from Barcelona have not been disclosed.

The 22-year-old campaigner stated that a mission like the Global Sumud Flotilla should not have to exist. She believes that the governments' failure to act is a betrayal to Palestinians and all of humanity. The campaigner also emphasised that countries, governments, and elected officials have a legal duty to uphold international law, prevent war crimes, and prevent genocide, but are failing to do so.

Sumud, the Arab word for perseverance, is the spirit that drives the Global Sumud Flotilla. The organisation remains committed to its mission, which is still ongoing, and its primary goal is to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and open a humanitarian corridor.

The organiser of the current aid flotilla heading to the Gaza Strip, which sets off on Sunday from Barcelona, is the independent group Global Sumud Flotilla. The flotilla includes activists such as Greta Thunberg and aims to deliver urgently needed supplies to Gaza while drawing attention to the Israeli blockade.
