International focus shifts towards global markets for SIMM and Modacalzado
Madrid International Fashion Show and Modacalzado Aim for Global Expansion
The Madrid International Fashion Show (SIMM) and Modacalzado, Spain's leading fashion and footwear trade fairs, are set to make a significant stride into international markets. Under the leadership of Francesco Malatesta, starting in 2012, these shows will aim to attract international buyers and expand market presence.
In February, SIMM's 67th edition will take place at Ifema, featuring approximately 900 brands. This first show under Malatesta's leadership will also mark the beginning of a new era for SIMM, as it targets key sectorial media, retailers, and independent distribution chains from various geographical areas worldwide.
Simultaneously, Modacalzado's 29th edition will take place from March 11 to 13, with the participation of around 600 exhibitors. The shows at Ifema are employing two distinct strategies to attract international buyers.
For Europe, the focus is primarily on countries like France, Italy, Germany, and the UK. SIMM and Modacalzado are targeting established companies in these countries, as well as independent distribution chains. The strategy for Europe is to strengthen and retain companies already familiar with these fairs, where Spanish products have a significant presence.
However, the shows at Ifema are not limiting their reach to Europe. They are seeking to attract buyers from various geographical areas, not just limited to Europe. The shows are aiming to make inroads into the Middle East, focusing on the United Arab Emirates, Israel, and Lebanon. Additionally, markets in Eastern Europe, including Russia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia, are also on the radar.
Furthermore, SIMM and Modacalzado are aiming to make a mark in international markets outside Europe and the Middle East. The shows are targeting markets in the USA, Latin America, and Asia, with a focus on attracting key sectorial media, retailers, and independent distribution chains from these regions.
The shows at Ifema are betting on internationalization as a means to weather the national economic climate. By targeting international markets, SIMM and Modacalzado aim to maintain and expand the presence of Spanish products in international markets, thereby ensuring the continued success of Spanish fashion and footwear industries.
