Interns at Saffery gain insights into trust matters

Saffery Trust, a leading financial services firm, recently welcomed four students for a four-week paid internship. The interns, Alex Cerciello-Rega, Lily Jones, Sebastian Ellis, and Vanessa De Vasconcelos, impressed Managing Director Nick Batiste with their enthusiasm and professionalism.

During their time at Saffery Trust, the interns were exposed to a variety of careers, including trust administration, compliance, accounting, digital transformation, marketing, and people and culture. They worked with both client-facing and non-client-facing teams across the office, gaining valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of the firm.

Nick Batiste commended the interns for quickly embracing the challenges presented to them. He noted that their adaptability and dedication made a significant impact on the firm. In particular, Ms. De Vasconcelos expressed her enjoyment of getting to know the different roles at Saffery Trust during her internship.

The internship did not specify a particular location or educational background, making it accessible to a wide range of students. Ms. De Vasconcelos, who plans to study business, sociology, psychology, and mathematics at Sixth Form Centre starting in September, was one of the participants.

One of the highlights of the internship was the "Gig on the Gravel" event, organised by the interns to support St John Guernsey LBG, the firm's chosen charity of the quarter. The event featured an acoustic set performed by Sebastian Ellis and raised an additional £425 for the charity.

Lily Jones, one of the interns, expressed that the internship exceeded her expectations and was helpful in gaining a taste of different careers. Ms. De Vasconcelos, who had previously been focused on a career in accountancy, found that the internship broadened her career interests to other fields in finance.

It is unclear whether the internship will be offered again in the future. However, the success of this year's programme bodes well for the continued development of the internship programme at Saffery Trust.
