Introducing Urban Autopilot on the Super Duper Cruise by Buick: A New Autonomous Driving Experience in the City
Buick Electra L7 to Debut with Advanced Autonomous Driving System
In a significant move, Buick has announced that its upcoming electric vehicle, the Electra L7, will feature the Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system. The system, developed in collaboration with Momenta, is set to make its official debut alongside the Electra L7 in September 2023.
The Xiao Yao Zhi Xing system is designed to offer urban navigation on autopilot, utilizing an assortment of cameras, LiDAR, and millimeter-wave radar sensors. The system learns from tens of millions of kilometers of real-world data, thanks to the R6 Flywheel Big Model it employs.
The Electra L7 is not just about advanced technology, though. Its interior boasts a luxurious design, with two-tone upholstery, a flowing swath of light wood trim, stylish speaker grilles, a slender full-width air vent, and a floating center console with a wireless smartphone charger. Drivers will find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch infotainment system, and a 50-inch panoramic augmented reality heads-up display.
The vehicle's infotainment system supports split-screen capability, and it features an ambient lighting system, an AI-infused voice assistant, and a new steering wheel with four-way buttons for a more intuitive experience.
One of the standout features of the Electra L7 is its non-stop parking assist system. This system detects available parking spaces in real time and automatically parks the vehicle without the need to stop and manually activate the parking process.
The Xiao Yao Zhi Xing system is capable of handling various scenarios, such as cut-ins, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, and lane changes. It can also automatically recognize toll station gates and continue driving even without lane markings, demonstrating its versatility and adaptability.
Buick has also mentioned a Sentinel Mode in the Electra L7, which uses cameras and radar sensors to monitor the vehicle's surroundings.
While no further details about the availability of the Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system have been provided, it is clear that this system is more advanced than Super Cruise, as it is designed for city roads and not just highways.
The Electra L7 represents a significant step forward for Buick, showcasing its commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive technology, particularly in its Chinese lineup. The vehicle's luxurious interior and advanced autonomous driving system make it an exciting prospect for the future of electric vehicles.
