Inundated Bavaria: THW Assists in Evacuation of Schrobenhausen Residents During Nighttime Due to Flooding
In the face of heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, the THW (Technisches Hilfswerk) Bavaria has been deployed across southern Bavaria to provide much-needed relief.
The THW, a volunteer operational organization of the federal government with around 88,000 volunteers nationwide, has been instrumental in evacuating several villages, including Baar-Ebenhausen. Residents were asked to leave their homes via loudspeaker announcements at 3 a.m., and THW forces from various locations, including Obernburg, Hof, and Schwandorf, were on hand to facilitate the evacuation.
In Baar-Ebenhausen, the THW is also treating contaminated water from flooded cellars as special waste. To reduce this special waste, the THW Bavaria is using its special facilities to separate oil from water, a process that is estimated to reduce special waste by around 90%.
The THW's Oil Pollution Control unit, deployed today in the district of Augsburg, is at the forefront of this effort. This unit aims to protect downstream villages from further flooding, working in collaboration with all other deployment forces.
Meanwhile, in Vohburg, high-performance pumps capable of pumping out 24,000 liters of water per minute have been put into operation to lower water levels.
The THW continues to deploy over 1,000 volunteer forces in southern Bavaria, and the deployment is expected to continue throughout the week. The district of Pfaffenhofen in Bavaria is also under threat of further flooding.
The THW provides technical and logistical support within the European Union's civil protection mechanism and for UN organizations. More information about the THW's commitment can be found at www.jetzt.thw.de.

It is expected that more villages will have to be evacuated due to flooding, and residents are advised to stay informed and heed any evacuation orders. Heavy rainfall is expected again today, and its impact on water levels is uncertain.
