In the bustling world of electric vehicles (EVs), Chinese automaker Zeekr, a high-end electric brand under Geely, has made some significant moves. The company has announced price reductions for its Zeekr 001 model, as well as the unveiling of new models, such as the Zeekr 9X PHEV.

The biggest battery of the Zeekr 001 now has a capacity of 140 kWh, offering a range of an impressive 1,032 km (CLTC), and comes with rear-wheel drive only. The second battery option, a 100-kWh pack, provides a range of 741 km (CLTC) in the RWD-version and 656 km with 4WD. The entry-level Zeekr 001 now costs 269,000 yuan (37,180 USD) in China, making it seemingly cheaper than its main rival, the Denza N7 from BYD.

Zeekr has also reduced the price of the Zeekr 001 model for the first time, with a price cut ranging from 30,000 to 37,000 yuan (4,150 - 5,120 USD). The Zeekr 001 ME is now 30,000 yuan (4,150 USD) cheaper, costing 319,000 yuan (44,090 USD), while the top-trim level, Zeekr 001 YOU, is 37,000 yuan (5,120 USD) cheaper, starting at 349,000 yuan (48,240 USD).

The Zeekr 9X PHEV, an 80,000 USD SUV with the world's largest PHEV battery and a 3-ton weight, started presales in China. However, the Zeekr 9X PHEV with the largest battery was not announced simultaneously with the Zeekr 001 in China, likely due to differences in their battery capacities and technical features. The 9X boasts a 70 kWh battery, enabling up to 380 km electric range.

The Chinese price war for electric vehicles is expected to continue at least till the end of this year and potentially into 2024. This price war, coupled with the increasing inventory of Chinese automakers, has seen the Chinese price coefficient reach 1.7 points in July 2023, with a 17.2% increase from July 2022.

Meanwhile, Geely has also unveiled official images of the 4.8-meter Starshine 6 PHEV sedan, the Geely Galaxy.

The Zeekr 001 liftback electric vehicle is 4 mm shorter, 32 mm wider, and 151 mm higher than the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. These changes, along with the price reductions and new models, indicate a competitive and dynamic market for electric vehicles in China.

As for the response from BYD regarding the price difference between the Zeekr 001 and the Denza N7, no information has been provided at this time.
