Investigation underway: Seeking witnesses following road accident in Blumenberg

On Monday morning, August 25, 2025, a severe traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Blumenbergsweg and Mercatorstraße in Cologne-Blumenberg. The accident involved an Audi A3, which was heavily damaged and abandoned.

The incident was discovered by a bus driver at around 4:45 AM. Upon noticing a damaged hood in the intersection area and a bent guardrail, the driver alerted the authorities. Behind the bent guardrail, on an adjacent field, stood the heavily damaged Audi A3.

Emergency services initiated extensive search operations for the presumably injured driver, with the police calling in a helicopter and a dog to assist. Despite these efforts, the driver of the Audi A3 has not been found yet.

The police are still searching for witnesses who can provide information about the incident. Witnesses who have information about the fleeing driver or the accident are asked to contact the officers of the Traffic Commission 2 at 0221 229-0. Alternatively, witnesses can also contact the Traffic Commission 2 by email at [email protected].

The focus of the investigation remains on identifying the person who was driving the Audi at the time of the accident. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the vehicle was stolen from the Longerich district before the accident.

The Cologne Traffic Accident Recording Team is on the scene, securing evidence. Blumenbergsweg is closed for traffic accident investigation.

As the investigation continues, we urge anyone with information to come forward and help the authorities in their search for the unidentified driver.
