Investigators seek leads

In a concerning incident that took place on Friday, September 5th, an elderly woman from Windeck was the victim of a bank scam. The scam involved a call from an unknown man claiming to be a bank employee.

The man claimed that unknown individuals had attempted to withdraw money from the woman's account. He said a new EC card was needed to prevent "fraud attempts". The woman, trustingly, handed over her bank card and PIN.

Shortly after the call, an unknown man appeared at the woman's door, claiming to be a bank employee. He demanded the woman's bank card and PIN, further solidifying the scam.

The suspect is described as a man. Witnesses in the area between Goethe Street and Rembrandt Street in Rosbach are asked to contact the police at 02241 541-3421 if they have any information regarding this incident.

The police advise being suspicious of calls asking for bank details, personal passwords, or cash and valuables. If unsure, end the conversation by hanging up and consult your bank's known service numbers, call your relatives back, or contact the police via 110.

For further inquiries, the Rhein-Sieg District Police Headquarters Press Office can be reached at 02241/541-2222 or via email at [email protected].

It is unfortunate to note that later, the woman discovered that a low four-digit amount had been withdrawn from her account. The man who withdrew the money is not publicly identified. Initially, it was believed that a supposed colleague was supposed to collect the old card and exchange it for a new one.

The police urge the public to remain vigilant and to be aware of such scams. They remind everyone to never share personal or financial information over the phone unless they are certain of the caller's identity.
