Investment firm focused on sustainable infrastructure, Generate Capital, announces David Crane as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Generate Capital Appoints David Crane as New CEO and Chairman
Sustainable infrastructure investor and operator, Generate Capital, has announced a significant change in leadership. David Crane, former Under Secretary for Infrastructure at the U.S. Department of Energy, has been appointed as the new CEO and Chairman of the board.
Crane, who joined Generate Capital in early 2025 after serving at the DOE from 2022, will be dedicating the next phase of his career to continuing to build the company. His appointment is part of Generate's strategy to position itself in a rapidly evolving energy market.
Generate, founded in 2014, has raised over $14 billion to date and serves as a critical resource for its partners, investors, and the communities it serves. The company builds, owns, operates, and finances critical infrastructure across various sectors, including power, mobility, waste, green digital, water and agriculture, and industrial decarbonization.
In a statement, Richard Kauffman, former Chairman and current Independent Director of Generate Capital, said, "Generate was founded on the belief that combining operators and investors creates the best opportunity to deliver value." He added that the company aims to continue building into a critical resource for partners, investors, and the communities it serves.
Crane's tenure at the DOE has provided him with valuable insights into the energy sector, which he will bring to Generate. Some of the company's assets include Sustainable Energy, Sustainable Mobility, and Sustainable Water, Waste & Agriculture assets. Examples of these assets include microgrids, solar, electric vehicles, anaerobic digesters, and desalination.
Crane is replacing Scott Jacobs, who has served as Generate's CEO for over ten years. In a statement, Jacobs expressed his confidence in Crane's leadership, saying, "I am excited to pass the torch to David, who I am confident will lead Generate Capital to even greater heights."
Generate owns and operates more than 2,000 assets globally. With Crane at the helm, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities in a rapidly evolving energy market.
