Investment secured by technology-focused logistics firm BoxxDocks to the tune of £250,000 for their intellectual shipping solution
BoxxDocks, a London-based startup, has secured £250,000 in pre-seed funding from the British Design Fund, marking a significant milestone in its mission to redefine the logistics industry. The investment will support the launch of BoxxDocks' innovative 'box-as-a-service' offering, aimed at offering smart, collapsible, and environmentally friendly logistics boxes.
The BoxxDocks boxes, which are patent-pending, incorporate tracking IoT technology for real-time location and supply chain mapping. This feature, along with their collapsible design, allows customers to reduce wasted shipping space, increase the number of boxes that can be shipped within one transport, and ultimately, lower carbon emissions and costs.
Alessandro Attanzio, cofounder of BoxxDocks, aims to build a global network of data-driven logistics boxes to unlock cost savings and CO2 reductions. The investment will also be used to further develop the BoxxDocks product line and accelerate innovation within the UK logistics sector.
The founders of BoxxDocks were surprised that no one else had thought of a simple solution to the outdated design of standard heavy-duty boxes. They discovered that the production of traditional boxes involves carbon-heavy manufacturing, large raw material supply chains, and synthetic dyes. In contrast, BoxxDocks boxes are manufactured in the UK and are 100% recyclable.
The BoxxDocks team is not alone in their quest to revolutionize the logistics industry. They are supported by University College London (UCL), SPIE GmbH, the venture capital firm High-Tech Gründerfonds, and the European Investment Bank, among others. Global investment firm Techstars is also an investor in the pre-seed round.
Damon Bonser, CEO of British Design Fund, is excited about the partnership with BoxxDocks and the potential to scale the solution while driving down costs and carbon emissions within the logistics sector. The British Design Fund, which works with ambitious British product start-up enterprises, provides expert mentoring to support their growth plans, in addition to capital investment. The fifth British Design Fund closed in May 2023, with BoxxDocks being one of the first startups to be supported by the fund.
With their focus on efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, BoxxDocks' smart logistics boxes are set to disrupt the traditional logistics industry. The company's mission aligns with British Design Fund's goal to support ambitious, purpose-led British startups with potential to scale. As BoxxDocks continues to grow, it promises to deliver a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective solution for logistic companies worldwide.
