IO Interactive opted for a younger James Bond in 007 First Light, seeking to create a game tailored for enthusiastic players
In the world of gaming, a new James Bond adventure is on the horizon. "007 First Light," developed by IO Interactive, promises to offer a unique take on the iconic secret agent character.
At the helm of this innovative project is Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive. Abrak emphasises the importance of humour in "007 First Light," drawing parallels to the humour found in IO's Hitman games. He hopes that some audience members will be surprised by the portrayal of the young Bond character.
Unlike the single-minded killer character in the Hitman games, the Bond character in "007 First Light" is described as a young man with wits, charm, and aspirational ideas about the world. The first mission in the game, shown at Gamescom, features Bond as a lookout/chauffeur, offering a refreshing take on the secret agent character.
The young James Bond portrayed in the game is named Patrick Gibson. Abrak sees a young Bond as a fitting way for gamers to start and share a journey with him. He also stated that the game is more than just a film adaptation, promising players the opportunity to experience the sharpness, wits, charm, and power moments of a Bond fantasy as the story progresses.
Elie Gould, a news writer with an interest in horror games and metroidvanias, has been following the development of "007 First Light" closely. Gould, who previously worked at TechRadar Gaming as a staff writer and studied at JOMEC in International Journalism and Documentaries, is excited about the new direction the game is taking.
Gould notes that the Bond character in "007 First Light" is softer and funnier than in recent films. The game does not focus on making Pierce Brosnan look good with pixels, but on creating an original story for a young Bond. The game is not an origin story, but it shows a Bond that many may not have seen before.
Gould also shares a passion for filming short docs about Smash Bros. or indie games. In addition to collecting Pokemon TCG, she looks forward to exploring the new world of "007 First Light" when it releases.
Abrak believes that a young Bond is a fitting way for gamers to start and share a journey with him. With its unique take on the character and engaging gameplay, "007 First Light" is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the James Bond franchise.
