In a bold move towards artificial intelligence (AI), Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed his belief that Apple will eventually become the best in the AI field, despite not currently holding the top spot. This ambition is reflected in the latest updates to iOS, with the upcoming release of iOS 18.2 set to introduce a host of AI-driven features.

The beta version of iOS 18.1, which has been in testing for a few months, already includes AI Writing Tools on new products like the iPad mini. However, some users have reported issues with notifications, specifically in summarizing emails and texts effectively.

One of the most anticipated features of iOS 18.2 is the integration of ChatGPT, a popular AI model. Users can access ChatGPT through the revitalized Siri or the Writing Tools function. Siri, under the leadership of Apple's software chief Craig Federighi, is also undergoing a significant overhaul. It will soon perform tasks across all apps and assist users, with Siri handing off some writing tasks to ChatGPT.

Genmojis, a new form of emojis with a cartoonish style, are also making their debut in iMessages, exclusively for beta users.

Another exciting feature in iOS 18.2 is the Visual Intelligence function, available only on iPhone 16 models. This allows the camera to describe objects, animals, or plants, providing a new level of accessibility for visually impaired users.

The Image Wand feature, similar to Samsung's Galaxy AI, allows users to turn rough sketches into AI-generated images. This could revolutionize the way artists and designers work, making the creative process more efficient and intuitive.

Apple has also made strides in the realm of language processing. The next update of iOS 18.x will allow the AI to rewrite text in ways beyond the base "professional" or "friendly." This could open up new possibilities for communication and creative expression.

However, it's important to note that Apple has not yet allowed users to deepfake celebrities with their devices. The company continues to prioritize user privacy and security, ensuring that their AI features are used responsibly and ethically.

The official release date for iOS 18.2 is Oct. 28, but the Apple Intelligence features will be limited to English-language users in the U.S. only. Despite these limitations, the updates to iOS 18.2 represent a significant leap forward in AI integration and visual intelligence, positioning Apple to compete at the forefront of the AI industry.
