Iowa State triumphs decisively over South Dakota, with Rocco Becht shining brightly in the victory.
In a one-sided contest, Iowa State handed South Dakota a resounding 55-7 defeat. The Cyclones showcased their offensive prowess, scoring an impressive 48 unanswered points after the game was tied at 7-7.
The scoring spree began early, with Iowa State starting the game with a touchdown on their opening drive. Benjamin Brahmer caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Rocco Becht, extending the Cyclones' lead to 7-0 (9:27 left in the first half).
Abu Sama III responded for Iowa State with a 15-yard touchdown run, giving them a 14-7 lead (1:12 to go in the first quarter). The momentum shifted decisively in Iowa State's favour from this point on.
Gabe Burkle added to Iowa State's tally with a 16-yard touchdown catch from Becht, increasing their lead to 21-7. Konrardy then added two field goals, including a 63-yarder that set a school record, to make the score 27-7 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Burkle and Townsend each scored touchdowns, with Townsend's being a 4-yard run. These scores further extended Iowa State's lead to 35-7 and 41-7, respectively.
Larenzo Fenner and Dylan Lee also got in on the action, with Fenner catching a 6-yard touchdown pass from Aidan Bouman for South Dakota (5:44 remaining in the first quarter). Lee scored an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, increasing Iowa State's lead to 55-7.
Despite Bouman's best efforts, completing 15 out of 29 passes for 126 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, South Dakota struggled to keep up with Iowa State's high-scoring offense.
Iowa State outgained South Dakota 529-209 in the game, demonstrating their dominance on both sides of the ball. The Cyclones' impressive performance sets them up well for their next contest.
