IT Firm Faces Allegations of Libel from Ex-Unity Officer
In a shocking revelation made on Latvian Television's "What's Happening in Latvia?" on April 24, Renaars Kadzulis, the head of election software provider SOAAR, accused Artis Kampars, the then Secretary General of Unity, of urging him to falsify the results of the 2014 Saeima elections.
Kadzulis claimed that Artis Kampars made this request during the elections, but he did not disclose the specific authorities to whom he reported the incident. He chose to withhold further comment to avoid generating additional publicity for misinformation and its distributor.
The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has received a request regarding potential covert campaigning against the party association New Unity, with the request being made two days after Kadzulis' allegations. However, KNAB chief Jēkabs Straume stated in an interview with LTV's "Morning Panorama" that no alleged covert campaigning was identified.
The nature of the potential covert campaigning against New Unity, as well as the specific institution that might be responsible for investigating the potential covert campaigning, if it falls outside of KNAB's competence, was not identified.
The investigation by KNAB into suspected covert campaigns against New Unity is currently ongoing, with no final conclusions published yet. It's important to note that Artis Kampars has previously called these claims by Kadzulis absurd and false.
Interestingly, the announcement of an attempt by Artis Kampars to influence the results of the 2014 Saeima elections was made by the head of information technology (IT) company SOAAR. However, the nature of the lawsuit filed against the head of "SOAAR" was not detailed in the provided text.
Kadzulis also refrained from commenting further on the lawsuit filed against the head of "SOAAB". This story is still developing, and more information is expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
