Jeep Wrangler Rubicon receives a new 2-liter, hardcore 4x4 model exclusive for New Zealand
Jeep Introduces Wrangler Rubicon in New Zealand
The Jeep brand has expanded its lineup in New Zealand with the addition of a new Wrangler Rubicon model. This off-road powerhouse is designed for those who crave adventure and seek the ultimate 4x4 experience.
The Wrangler Rubicon comes with a premium of $20,000 over the Wrangler Overland, priced at $104,990 in New Zealand. This premium is well justified by the heavy-duty 4x4 specification that the Rubicon offers.
At the heart of the Rubicon is a turbo-petrol 4-cylinder engine, producing 200kW of power and 400Nm of torque, shared with the Wrangler models. This engine is mated to a "Rock-Trac" transmission, featuring a 4:1 low gear ratio and an impressive crawl ratio of 77.2:1, making it ideal for challenging off-road conditions.
The Rubicon model also boasts a next-gen HD Dana 44 Full-Float rear axle, a unique feature that allows for better weight distribution and improved off-road performance. This axle, along with Dana solid axles, ensures the Rubicon can handle the toughest terrains, including mountain passes and coastal adventures.
For added protection, the Rubicon model comes equipped with four skid plates. Additionally, it features a TrailCam off-road camera, eliminating blind spots while navigating challenging terrain. The TrailCam not only enhances safety but also adds to the Rubicon's off-road capabilities.
Sarah Williams, head of marketing for Jeep NZ, describes the Wrangler Rubicon as a symbol of freedom and adventure. "The Rubicon embodies the 'go anywhere, do anything' ethos of the Jeep brand," she said. "It signifies a more hard-core 4x4 state of play compared to the luxury-themed Overland specification."
The Rubicon model also supports aftermarket tyre upgrades, allowing owners to customise their vehicle for even more off-road capabilities.
Interestingly, listings of vehicles already registered with the Wrangler Rubicon's 2.0-liter engine and trim in Germany indicate that the model will be available in the German market, with first registrations starting from December 2024.
In conclusion, the Wrangler Rubicon is a formidable off-road vehicle that offers a unique blend of power, capability, and adventure. For those seeking a vehicle that can take them anywhere, the Wrangler Rubicon is an ideal choice.
