Obituary: Alice Joanne Bowman (1932-2025)

Alice Joanne Bowman, a beloved figure in the Lancaster community, passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on April 24, 1932, in Valley Township, Chester County, Alice lived a life full of adventure and service.

Alice attended Ephrata High School and later graduated in 1950. Her educational journey continued at Penn State University. In her professional life, Alice worked at the Atlee medical offices in Lancaster. She also had an internship at Reading Hospital.

Alice's life was marked by resilience and determination, as she was a long-term survivor of bilateral breast cancer with metastatic disease.

Alice is survived by her loving husband, Dr. John H. Bowman, whom she married in 1954. Together, they raised three children: John, Lisa, and Charles. Alice was also a cherished grandmother to Skylar, Pierce, and Bryce, and great-grandmother to Aiden and Ryder.

The Memorial Service for Alice will be held at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Edward Goodley will officiate, and Father Thomas Keller will conduct the service.

The family of Alice will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. For those who wish, a living tribute can be planted in Alice's memory.

The interment for Alice will take place at Metzler's Mennonite Cemetery, Ephrata, PA, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in memory of Alice can be made to Lancaster Hospice & Community Care, Meals on Wheels of Lancaster, or Lancaster Farmland Trust.

Alice's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and service. She lived in Philadelphia, Fort Defiance, Arizona, Rochester, Minnesota, and Lancaster, leaving a lasting impact in each community she called home.
