In the Offenbach agency district, a significant hurdle persists for many young people transitioning from training to employment, as revealed by Carmen Giss, chairwoman of the management of the Offenbach employment agency. This challenge comes as the unemployment rate in the district increased to 5.8 percent in August, up from 5.6 percent in July.

The increase in unemployment in August was primarily due to an uptick in the basic security sector. The number of long-term unemployed (1 year or longer) slightly increased to 6,826, 21 more than in July and 522 more than in August 2024. Long-term unemployed people accounted for 35.3 percent of all registered unemployed people.

Of the long-term unemployed, 6,262 were in the SGB II (basic security) scheme and 564 in the SGB III (unemployment insurance) scheme. Giss stated that the gap between supply and demand on the training market is widening.

Despite the rise in unemployment, overall employment slightly increased in the Offenbach agency district. However, companies' willingness to hire remains cautious. In the city of Offenbach, 7,715 people were unemployed in August, an increase of 12 compared to July and 377 more than in August 2024. In the Offenbach district, 11,615 people were registered as unemployed, 234 more than in July and 1,044 more than in August 2024.

The city of Offenbach's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.5 percent in August, but was higher than in August 2024 (9.1 percent). Giss referred to offers for women during the 'Week of Equal Opportunities' to provide information and inspiration about the labor market and professional re-entry. She also emphasized the need for action on the training market in Offenbach and stated that bringing flexibility significantly increases the chances of success for young people in finding a training place.

Young people who have not yet found a training place can still start an apprenticeship after the official training start, according to Giss. The organization responsible for managing the long-term unemployment rate trend in Offenbach since August 2025 is the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fรผr Arbeit) through its local employment agencies in Offenbach and the surrounding region.
