In an intriguing turn of events, actor Jude Law has taken on the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Olivier Assayas' film adaptation, "The Kremlin's Magician." The film premiered on Sunday evening at the prestigious Venice Film Festival.

The film is competing for the coveted Golden Lion at the festival. The story is told from the perspective of a fictional character, played by Paul Dano, who is loosely based on Russian politician Vladislav Surkov.

Jude Law, in an interview, shared that his preparation for the role involved extensive research, including watching a lot of film material and learning judo. He also mentioned that Olivier Assayas and he agreed not to imitate Putin, instead finding a resemblance through a wig.

Law expressed no fear of a reaction from Putin regarding his role, stating that the public image of Putin reveals little, making his portrayal challenging. He also emphasised that the production team did not aim to define anyone in the story, but rather to tell a compelling narrative.

Interestingly, Mario Adorf, who is also part of the cast, expressed a point of feeling it was enough this year, without elaborating on the context.

The film's premiere at the Venice Film Festival was met with much anticipation and curiosity. The audience will be eager to see how Assayas explores Putin's rise to the Russian presidency in this unique adaptation.

There have been no explicit mentions about controversy being sought for the sake of controversy in the film. Instead, Jude Law's comments suggest that he approached the role with a focus on the character within the larger story.

As the film competes for the Golden Lion, audiences and critics alike will be waiting to see if "The Kremlin's Magician" will cast a spell on them with its compelling narrative and Jude Law's portrayal of Putin.
