In a significant move for the cultural landscape of Linz, Austria, it has been announced that Christoph Koncz will take over as the new chief conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, starting from September 2027. This appointment is independent of any specific performance or event.

Koncz will also assume the role of music director for the Landestheater Linz, commencing from the same date. His dual role marks a continuation, as he succeeds Markus Poschner in both positions. The initial contract duration for Koncz as chief conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz was announced for three years, starting from the 2022/2023 season.

Upper Austria Governor Thomas Stelzer has expressed his enthusiasm for Koncz, describing him as an "absolute top conductor." Koncz's ambition is to establish the Bruckner Orchestra as a leading ensemble outside of Vienna.

The Bruckner Orchestra Linz is a renowned orchestra within the city, and its appointment of Koncz underscores the institution's commitment to artistic excellence. It is important to note that the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Vladimir Jurowski in Munich are two separate entities, each significant within their respective cities.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Jurowski, a Russian star conductor, has extended his contract at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, remaining responsible as General Music Director. The extension ensures his continued role in Munich until 2029, and it does not affect his duties with any other orchestra or ensemble. The Bavarian State Opera has emphasised Jurowski's crucial contribution to the artistic development and international profiling of the State Opera.

Jurowski's contract extension in Munich is not related to Christoph Koncz's appointment with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. Both conductors are in demand worldwide with renowned orchestras, contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of their respective cities.

The Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Landestheater Linz, Bavarian State Opera, and Vladimir Jurowski in Munich are all significant cultural institutions within their respective cities, each playing a crucial role in fostering artistic growth and cultural appreciation. As Christoph Koncz prepares to take over the role of chief conductor from a previously unmentioned individual, the future of these institutions promises to be an exciting one.
