Jusos elect a new board, expressing frustration over a dated portrayal of females in their public perception

Last Saturday, the 10th of October, the UBK (Young Socialists) district conference was held at K14 in the Juso district of Oberhausen. The event, marked by board elections and the introduction of new members, saw a shift in leadership and a reaffirmation of the UBK's aims and values.

The agenda of the conference mainly focused on board elections. Incumbent members Saskia Fischer and Michele Horn ran for re-election, with one position vacant. Lukas Heilmann and Simon Theis, who had held board positions, also did not seek re-election. Christoph Knepper and Christin Becker ran as deputy chairpersons. Tim Tzscheppan contested for the position of chairman, while Yannik Berg, Jannik Hohmann, and Christoph Horn ran as deputies for the Jusos Oberhausen.

The entire board was elected by the UBK with a large majority. The current chairman, Gianni Virgallita, did not run for re-election. MP Dirk VΓΆpel, in his speech, promised a thorough review of the election defeat and hinted at potential structural changes.

The UBK was particularly pleased with the large number of new members who attended the conference. The organisation emphasised its commitment to welcoming young families and especially young women with children in their sessions, rejecting any accusations to the contrary. The UBK categorically rejects the worldview expressed by the author, who accused young women of being more concerned with keeping children quiet than with the session.

The UBK also referred two motions to the SPD Oberhausen party conference in November. The first motion demands that Oberhausen declare itself a safe haven for refugees. The second motion calls for the establishment of a discussion forum for creating a socio-ecological Oberhausen. The UBK aims to abolish rigid and outdated gender roles and to promote a society free from discrimination.

New MP Frederick Cordes, also a former chairman of the Jusos Oberhausen, introduced himself and emphasised his commitment to advocating for Juso issues in the state parliament. The UBK was less pleased with the reporting and will discuss potential oversights in political perception.

The UBK reiterated that their sessions will continue to be open to young families and young women with children in the future. The organisation also aims to foster a more inclusive and progressive environment, where all voices are heard and respected.
