Kennedy Expressway's outbound lanes have resumed traffic following an accident on the northwest side, reports Illinois State Police.

The Kennedy Expressway in Chicago experienced a significant disruption on Saturday morning due to a crash and ongoing construction work.

At approximately 7:41 a.m., the Illinois State Police reported a crash on the outbound lanes of I-90 near Fullerton Avenue. An ABC7 crew was at the scene, but the person who was taken to the hospital as a result of the crash was not specified.

The crash caused all outbound lanes on the Kennedy Expressway to close, causing a major traffic build-up. However, by 9 a.m., all lanes were reopened.

The construction work on the Kennedy Expressway has been causing lane reductions between Division Street and Pulaski Road. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), this is part of the final phase of the Kennedy Expressway construction.

As a result of the construction, several ramps have been affected. The Fullerton Avenue ramp to outbound Kennedy and the slip ramp portion to Western Avenue are currently closed. The slip ramp portion to Western Avenue is also closed as part of the scheduled construction work.

The reversible lanes on the Kennedy Expressway are currently outbound only due to the construction work. This has further complicated the traffic situation caused by the crash.

IDOT announced the ongoing closures due to the final phase of Kennedy Expressway construction. The construction work is scheduled, and the public is advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any delays.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes or allow extra travel time if they are planning to use the Kennedy Expressway. The Illinois State Police and IDOT are working to clear the traffic and complete the construction work as quickly as possible.
