Kuwait prepares for a scorching weekend, with the approaching 'Suhail' predicted to bring respite from the heat.
The Suhail season, a traditional marker of milder weather in Kuwait, is approaching, according to Dr. Nasir Al-Dousari, the astronomer who made the announcement. This seasonal shift will bring noticeable changes in weather patterns, offering much-needed relief from the extreme summer heat.
Kuwait is currently under the influence of the Indian monsoon depression, as stated by the Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali. This weather system is responsible for the light to moderate northwesterly winds that are expected to prevail in the country.
Over the weekend, Kuwaitis can expect humid nights in coastal areas, with nighttime lows hovering between 29-31°C. This is a significant drop from the daytime highs, which are forecast to reach up to 47°C on both Friday and Saturday.
The arrival of the Suhail season will not only bring a drop in temperatures but also other natural signs. Longer shadows, morning dew, increased humidity, and the growth of leafy plants are all indicators of the Suhail season's arrival.
Moreover, the harsh summer winds will be replaced by southeasterly winds, providing a welcome respite from the heat. Humidity is also expected to increase over the weekend, particularly in coastal areas.
The Al-Ajairy Scientific Center predicts that the heat wave will begin to ease starting on Sunday, August 24, with the arrival of the Suhail season. The Suhail star, a traditional symbol of the country transitioning towards milder weather, will be visible in Kuwaiti skies starting September 4.
As the Suhail season approaches, Kuwaitis can look forward to cooler nights and a gradual drop in temperatures, bringing an end to the extreme summer heat.
