Lacrosse Team from Holy Cross Begins Season With Strength and Vigor
The Holy Cross Women's Lacrosse team is off to a promising start under the guidance of eighth-year head coach Amanda Belichick, as they aim for a breakout year in 2023. After a 6-10 season in 2022, the team has started the new campaign with a 2-2 record, including a recent victory against New Hampshire by a score of 18-7.
Sally Zinsner led the charge against New Hampshire, scoring a hat trick, while three other Crusaders β Riley Peters, Racheli Levy-Smith, and Isabela Miller β contributed with two goals each. Ella Kittredge and Lauren Drillock also impressed with four goals apiece. The women's defense was solid, holding New Hampshire to only 13 shots, with goaltender Tori Cini saving 6 of them.
Meanwhile, the men's lacrosse team at Holy Cross has had a strong start to the 2024 season, winning two games since the pandemic, the last time they won two games was in 2021. The men's team played their best game in years against Sacred Heart, winning 10-9 despite a snow squall hindering both teams' mobility and visibility. Will Messineo scored four goals, and Matt Major and Cole Kratovil added hat tricks in the victory against UMass Lowell.
Goaltender Dawson Friers had a standout performance against Sacred Heart, saving 12 shots and earning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week honors. William Stahl also shone in the game, scoring four goals.
In the sidelines, Ben Lepper '25, Sports Editor for the article, keeps a close eye on both teams' progress. Lepper, who majors in English with a French Minor and is also involved in Graphic Design, is also the Editor-in-Chief of The Spire & The Criterion. As the 2024 season unfolds, both the men's and women's lacrosse teams at Holy Cross continue to show promise and determination. With strong performances, dedicated coaching, and committed players, it's an exciting time to be a Crusader fan.
