Lamborghini Acknowledges Your Longing for the Diablo, Yet It Can't Revisit the Past

In a recent conversation with Lamborghini's Chief Technology Officer, Rouven Mohr, and Design Boss, Mitja Borket, the future of automotive performance technology was discussed.

Mohr, who is responsible for defining the next level of performance technology, expressed his admiration for the current state of cars, believing they will be appreciated as they were in 50 years. He sees the equivalent of the iconic Diablo today in Lamborghini's showroom.

The Diablo, once introduced as a state-of-the-art vehicle, was likened to a spaceship. It was a car that Mohr himself once owned, and its legacy continues to influence Lamborghini's modern automobiles through classic design cues.

While the next flagship model is expected to be presented in 2025, no specific date has been announced yet. Mohr trusts the engineers at Lamborghini to create "really cool" things, and Borket compares Lamborghini's design language to songs of an artist who has been at the top of the music industry for 62 yearsβ€”constantly redefining themselves while keeping their DNA intact.

Borket describes the design process as a constant buildup to a pinnacle, with each design being different from the one before. He believes that the Fenomeno embodies this philosophy of continuous evolution and redefinition.

Nostalgia has a place at Lamborghini, but modern cars are expected to lean more towards homage than recreation. Mohr believes that new technology is not necessarily bad or boring, and that old cars are not always more exciting. He acknowledges that technology and the world are progressing, and he has a personal interest in old cars.

Mitja Borket, a fan of the band Depeche Mode, draws a parallel between the band's ability to keep its DNA for 40 years while constantly redefining itself and Lamborghini's approach to design. The authors had an enlightening conversation with these visionaries, gaining insights into the future of automotive performance technology at Lamborghini.

The goal remains clear: to continue defining the future of automotive performance technology, while maintaining the essence that has made Lamborghini a legend in the automotive industry.
