Large quantities of marijuana, over 200 kilograms and with an estimated value of more than two million euros, discovered concealed within a cargo of marijuana in a refrigerated truck in Spain.
The Braunschweig Customs Office has recently uncovered a significant marijuana smuggling operation, following the seizure of over 200 kilograms of cannabis products from a Spanish truck.
The incident took place at the Schwalenberg Ost rest area on the A7 motorway, where a Spanish truck was stopped by the Braunschweig Customs Office. The driver, a 60-year-old individual, is under investigation for violating the law on the handling of recreational cannabis.
According to the law, which came into force in 2024, cannabis products, including marijuana, are classified under the Narcotics Act. The marijuana found in the truck has a street value of over two million euros.
The driver is currently in custody and faces a potential prison sentence of three months to five years. Further investigations are being conducted by the Hannover Customs Investigation Office on behalf of the Braunschweig Public Prosecutor's Office.
Zolloberinspektorin Nadine Battmer, the deputy press spokesperson for the Braunschweig Customs Office, has commented on the case. She stated that the office suspects commercial smuggling in this case, which would be a serious offense.
The marijuana found in the truck was secured and transported away with the help of forces from the Hildesheim Highway Police and the Technical Relief Agency from Northeim. The search results do not provide the name of the suspect arrested by the Braunschweig Customs Office.
