In a nail-biting finish, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons emerged victorious against the Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. The Falcons, currently in third place with nine points, clinched the match thanks to a last-over heroics by Shamar Springer.

The Royals, led by Brandon King's unbeaten 98 off 65 balls, were looking strong until the final over. With 12 runs needed, the Falcons turned the tables. Captain Rovman Powell of the Royals made a surprising decision, giving the final over to Sherfane Rutherford.

Rutherford, who bowled his first over of the day in this match, started the final over with three wides, putting the Royals in a tough spot. Imad Wasim, despite a misjudgment while attempting a second run on the penultimate ball, managed to score two runs off the only legal delivery in the sequence.

However, it was not enough for the Royals. Andries Gous, who remained unbeaten on 85 off 53 balls for the Falcons, scored the winning run off the final ball, securing a thrilling victory for his team.

Powell's decision to exclude Jomel Warrican and Chris Green from the final over was due to the left-hander batting for the Royals. Green, who was not having a good night, was subsequently excluded from the final over. Warrican, on the other hand, had been the frontline bowler for the Royals with overs remaining.

Rutherford, who has bowled at least two overs in a match on eleven occasions, including three instances of bowling his full quota, proved to be a valuable asset for the Falcons in this crucial match. His best figures of 3-19 came in the 2020 Bangladesh Premier League.

The loss for the Royals marks their fifth in six matches, leaving them teetering at the bottom of the points table with just a single point. The Falcons, on the other hand, continue their strong performance in the CPL 2025, proving to be a formidable team to beat.
