Law enforcement agents apprehend individual accused of sexual abuse and physical violence.
In a series of disturbing incidents that took place on Monday in Berlin's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, a 34-year-old Polish man has been arrested and is under investigation for sexual harassment and assault.
The incidents began at Berlin's Ostbahnhof, where the man allegedly sexually harassed a 21-year-old German woman around 1:30 p.m. A staff member of the "Violence against Women" hotline at Berlin's Ostbahnhof provided support to the young woman after the incident.
Later in the day, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the same man is suspected of assaulting two more women at the S-Bahn station Warschauer StraΓe. He allegedly struck a 21-year-old German woman on the buttocks without warning and also assaulted a 26-year-old German woman, causing reddening of the skin from the blow to the neck.
The federal police have been investigating the man since the assault on Monday and have secured video recordings of the incidents, which enabled the identification of the known Polish national. Federal police officers identified the man as the suspect in the earlier assault at Berlin's Ostbahnhof.
After completing all measures, the officers took the man into custody. The man has since been issued a ban from the train stations Warschauer StraΓe and Ostbahnhof.
The current head of the Federal Police Directorate Berlin is Manuel Ostermann, a German federal police officer and since 2023 first deputy federal chairman of the DPolG Federal Police Union. The federal police are actively investigating the man for the incidents that occurred on Monday.
