Law enforcement authorities are in search of individuals who may have relevant information

On August 1, 2022, a significant incident occurred in the Geistviertel district of Lünen, Germany. A fire broke out in an underground garage located on Luisenhüttenstraße, causing extensive damage.

Initial findings suggest that the garage was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival of emergency services. Strong smoke was noticed coming from the underground garage, and the scene was quickly cordoned off to ensure the safety of the public.

The fire, which resulted in the complete destruction of the garage, also affected nearby vehicles. Two cars parked above the garage burned completely, while up to 15 vehicles potentially suffered damage. Four adjacent residential buildings were evacuated due to heavy smoke.

Thankfully, the number of injuries was relatively low. A 43-year-old Lünen resident suffered minor injuries from the smoke, and three other individuals required treatment. In total, 27 people were checked by the emergency medical services as a precaution.

The Criminal Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire. Tips regarding observations around 5:30 AM that could be related to the fire can be reported to the Criminal Office at 0231/132-7441. The police are also seeking witnesses regarding the fire incident.

In response to the incident, a welfare bus was provided for the affected residents.

Flames from the ventilation shafts were shooting meters high, creating a dramatic and concerning sight for onlookers. An observer around 5:30 AM in the Geistviertel area of Lünen possibly witnessed what happened with the fire in the underground garage.

The estimated damage from the fire is in the millions. As the investigation continues, the community hopes for a swift resolution and a safe return to normalcy for the affected residents.
