Law enforcement authorities in Germany are seeking individuals who may have observed relevant events.
In an unsettling incident that took place on a RE 32 train from Bayreuth to Nuremberg on February 23rd, a 34-year-old German man allegedly assaulted a 62-year-old female train conductor.
The incident occurred when the conductor asked the man to show his ID, to which he responded that he usually travels without one. When the conductor threatened to call the authorities, the man became aggressive. According to reports, he then struck the conductor with her own smartphone, causing her to sustain injuries including a scratch on her eyebrow, pain in her left eye, temple, and cheekbone.
Fortunately, other passengers intervened to prevent further violence, and the man exited the train at Hersbruck station.
The Federal Police are currently investigating the incident, with the Federal Police Inspectorate Nuremberg leading the investigation. The Inspectorate, which is part of the Bundes Police Directorate Munich, has stations in Augsburg, Ingolstadt, and Ansbach. Its jurisdiction covers 309 train stations and halts, as well as 1823 kilometers of track in Middle Franconia, North Swabia, northern Upper Bavaria, and the district of Forchheim, which is approximately 23 percent of Bavaria's area. The Inspectorate is responsible for police safety and criminal prosecution in Deutsche Bahn facilities.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Federal Police in Nuremberg at 0911 205551-0 or via email at [email protected]. Press inquiries should be directed to Hubert Grimm, who is responsible for the Federal Police Directorate in Nuremberg. Mr. Grimm can be contacted at Bundespolizeiinspektion Nürnberg, Bahnhofsplatz 6, 90443 Nürnberg, or via email at [email protected].
The man is described as approximately 185-188 cm tall, heavyset, wearing white pants with colorful circles, a black jacket, a drawn-on black wavy beard, black, chin-length hair (likely a wig), and carrying a large black backpack with a gray strap.
The train conductor is currently recovering from her injuries. The public is reminded to report any suspicious or aggressive behavior to the authorities to ensure the safety of all passengers.
