NPB Cracks Down on Social Media Influencers Promoting Illegal Gambling

The Finnish National Police Board (NPB) has taken action against several social media influencers who have been promoting illegal gambling. The NPB is concerned about the promotion of such activities on social media platforms and has issued orders for two influencers to cease their promotional activities.

According to the NPB, marketing of gambling in Finland from outside Finland is not allowed. Only Veikkaus Oy, the state-owned gaming company, is authorised to market gambling in mainland Finland. The influencers, who have used platforms such as Twitch and Kick, have been promoting the products of non-Finnish gambling companies.

The promotional activities carried out by these influencers have been ongoing for an extended period and were not incidental or involuntary. The influencers had affiliate partnerships with the platforms they promoted, and the NPB believes they are driving conversions to affiliated brands through their promotional activities.

The enforcement action against the influencers was necessary due to their role in promoting illegal gambling. The police argued that their actions had contributed to the promotion of illegal gambling in Finland, and as a result, the influencers helped increase the visibility of such activities.

One influencer has already been fined €30,000 by the NPB for failing to comply with a cease-and-desist notice. Senior Adviser Tomi Sallinen commented on the decision, stating that marketing of gambling in Finland from outside Finland is not allowed.

The NPB has warned all social media influencers to stop promoting gambling in Finland. Failure to comply with the NPB's orders could result in a fine of €30,000 each for the two influencers. The search results do not provide the names of the three influencers fined by the Finnish police for selling gambling products.

The NPB is taking a firm stance against individuals who promote illegal gambling on social media. The agency is targeting content creators and influencers who have a significant following and can potentially influence their audience to engage in illegal activities. The NPB's action is aimed at protecting the public and maintaining law and order in the country.
