Melco Resorts Announces Layoffs at City of Dreams Mediterranean Resort
In a move that has left many uncertain, Melco Resorts, the global casino and entertainment company, has announced layoffs at its City of Dreams Mediterranean Resort in Limassol, Cyprus.
The resort, which opened its doors on July 10, 2023, and boasts the largest pool area in the country, an adventure park, and 500 luxurious rooms with stunning views of the surrounding beaches and mountain ranges, has been hit hard by the ongoing conflict in Israel.
According to reports, 130 casino employees have been laid off, with an additional 51 employees in the probationary period not having their contracts renewed. This decision was made due to a significant drop in international bookings at the resort.
The responsible parties at Melco are reportedly working on an adapted marketing strategy to counteract the impact of the conflict on visitor numbers. In addition, Melco is attempting to help the affected individuals find new jobs by contacting 18 local and 9 international companies.
