Lead at TPC Boston LPGA Tournament: China's Wang takes three-stroke advantage
In an exciting turn of events at the ongoing LPGA tournament in the United States, 26-year-old Wang has taken the lead, setting herself up for a potential first title.
Wang, who hails from China, posted a solid 67 in the second round, which she completed on Friday night after play was suspended due to darkness. She continued her impressive form in the third round, carding seven birdies to finish with a one-under 71. This brings her total score to 18-under par (198), putting her in a strong position heading into the final round.
Meanwhile, Kim Sei-young of South Korea, currently ranked third in the world, has been close on Wang's heels. After a seven-under 65 in the second round, Kim struggled a bit in the third, posting a one-under 71. Despite early bogeys, Kim managed to record a closing birdie, taking her total score to 15-under par (199).
American Rose Zhang, who also had a marathon day, completing just four holes on Friday, is also three strokes behind Wang with the same score (199). Zhang's impressive performance includes a five-under 67 in the third round.
Other notable performances in the third round include Park Kum-kang, ranked 340th in the world, who had an outstanding eight-under 64. Park picked up six strokes in her first seven holes and finished with a total score of 14-under par (200), sharing fourth place with Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand and American Andrea Lee.
Thitikul, who had a seven-under 65 in the third round, and Lee, who carded a six-under 66, are also tied for fourth with a score of 14-under par (200). Celine Borge also had a strong showing, carding a six-under 67 in the third round, taking her total score to 13-under par (203), along with three other players who share sixth place.
Ayaka Furue of Japan and Andrea Lee had impressive rounds of six-under 66 each in the third round, while Kim Sei-young recorded a closing birdie despite early bogeys. Wang added birdies at the 14th and 18th holes during the third round.
The final round promises to be an exciting contest as Wang looks to clinch her first LPGA title.
