The Hungarian Grand Prix is gearing up for an exciting race weekend at Hungaroring, taking place from August 1-3. Live coverage of practice and qualifying sessions can be found on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2, with the race being aired on BBC Radio 5 Live.

In the qualifying sessions, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari delivered a stunning performance, edging out McLaren's Oscar Piastri by a mere 0.026 seconds to secure the pole position. Leclerc's teammate, Lewis Hamilton, had a disappointing qualifying performance, failing to progress past the second phase and ending up in 12th position.

Lando Norris, the McLaren driver who is 16 points behind in the championship standings, finished just 0.015 seconds behind Piastri, placing him third on the starting grid. Norris expressed that they did a good job during the qualifying sessions but were just slow compared to Leclerc.

Oscar Piastri noted the changing conditions during the qualifying sessions, and Leclerc set out to aim for a clean lap in the final qualifying phase, resulting in the unexpected pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen from Red Bull faced difficulties throughout the weekend and ended his qualifying session in eighth place, behind rookie driver Gabriel Bortoleto from Sauber. Bortoleto's impressive performance outshone Verstappen's, marking a significant milestone for the young driver.

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll managed impressive efforts to complete the top six on the grid for the Hungarian Grand Prix. George Russell of Mercedes secured the fourth position on the starting grid.

Charles Leclerc expressed disbelief at his pole position, stating it was one of the best he's ever had despite the qualifying sessions being extremely difficult. Live updates and further coverage are available on the BBC Sport website and app. The race start time is 14:00 BST on Sunday.

Before Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, the fastest racing position for Formula 1 at the Hungaroring was not explicitly found. However, for MotoGP at the Balaton Park Circuit, Marc Marquez secured the pole position, winning the sprint and the main race with a dominant performance.

As the Hungarian Grand Prix nears, fans are eagerly anticipating the race, with Leclerc's unexpected pole position adding to the excitement. Will Leclerc maintain his lead, or will Verstappen and Hamilton mount a comeback? Tune in to find out!
