Legendary Indian leg-spinner who holds the IPL record has declared his departure from all levels of cricket.

In a heartfelt announcement on September 4, 2025, former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra retired from cricket, bringing an end to a career marked by exceptional achievements.

Mishra made his ODI debut in the TVS Cup in Bangladesh shortly after the 2003 World Cup, and his journey in international cricket spanned 14 years, during which he represented India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is.

One of Mishra's most notable accomplishments was becoming the only spinner with a hat-trick in each of the three formats - Test, ODI, and T20I. He also made history in the IPL by being the only player to achieve three hat-tricks in the tournament.

In ODIs, Mishra took 64 wickets at an average of 23.60 each, with his best performance being a brilliant 6-48 against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo. He also had two five-wicket hauls in this format.

Mishra's Test career was equally impressive, with 76 wickets at an average of 35.72 each. His first-innings spell of 5 wickets remains his only five-wicket haul in Test cricket, achieved on his debut against Australia in the Mohali Test of 2008/09.

Between 2003 and 2017, Mishra played a significant role in India's cricket, including a remarkable eighth-wicket stand with Jayant Yadav, which totalled 392 runs - the highest since the First World War.

In his final years, Mishra represented Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL before hanging up his boots. He finished his IPL career with the fifth-most wickets among spinners, with a total of 174.

Mishra, who described cricket as his first love, teacher, and greatest source of joy, expressed his desire to give back to the game that made him who he is.
