Lessons uncovered on the subjects of sorrow, loss, and recovery following the demise of my father

In a heartfelt and inspiring approach, Sandie Moore, Greatist's life coach columnist and a confidence coach based in New York City, shares her experiences of dealing with loss and finding meaning in life.

Moore lost her father at the age of 19, a shock that left an indelible mark on her life. Yet, she finds solace in the belief that love is stronger than death. Her father, a writer and an addict, lives on within her and in her memories.

"I can feel my father's presence when I cook, drive, play games, read, watch TV, or write," Moore shares. "His spirit is a constant companion, guiding me through life."

Moore finds inspiration in the unexpected death of her father and believes that death gives life meaning. She encourages everyone to cherish their loved ones and make the most of every moment.

"Spend time with your parents, put away your phones, and truly engage with them," Moore advises. "Ask them questions about their past, their current thoughts, their favorite memories. Write down their responses for future reference. These are priceless treasures."

In the face of grief, emotions can be unpredictable, going from laughter to tears in seconds. Moore emphasises the importance of being patient with oneself and others during this deeply personal journey.

"There is no right or wrong way to grieve," Moore says. "We should never judge anyone who is experiencing grief. Everyone copes differently, and it's important to allow ourselves and others the space to heal at our own pace."

Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's COO, also experienced a profound loss when she lost her husband suddenly last year. Like Moore, she finds motivation in the thought of living life to its fullest. If she lives to her father's age, her life would be more than halfway through, a fact that she finds both humbling and inspiring.

Moore's website offers free weekly wellness tips for those seeking guidance on improving their lives and self-approval habits. Her advice is a testament to her dedication to helping others find joy, meaning, and resilience in the face of life's challenges.
