Limited-edition performance enhancement for the Audi RS3 with its distinctive five-cylinder engine
Audi is set to unveil a new RS3 variant, aiming to make it the most powerful petrol hot hatch on sale, surpassing the 416bhp Mercedes-AMG A45 S. According to reports, this special edition could mark the last hurrah for the car and its engine, similar to the Audi TT RS Iconic Edition from 2022.
The development of the new RS3 is being influenced by forthcoming EU emissions regulations, which are likely to impact the performance of petrol-powered cars. The project leader for the further development of the RS3 with the five-cylinder engine has not been publicly disclosed.
The new RS3 prototype wears new brake calipers painted blue, suggesting extra stopping power and potential for a unique color scheme or livery. The car is expected to offer a significant increase in power compared to the previous RS3 Performance Edition, with an expected output of over 401bhp. Additionally, it's anticipated that the new RS3 will deliver more torque, with an expected output of over 369lb ft.
The new RS3 is a hot hatch model from Audi, and it's currently being tested on the Nuฬrburgring Nordschleife. Notably, Donkervoort, a Dutch sports car maker, has already boosted the 2.5-litre turbocharged engine to 493bhp for its F22 open-wheeler.
Sebastian Grams, former managing director of Audi Sport, stated that there's still room for improvement with the five-cylinder engine compared with the RS3 Performance Edition. The new RS3 variant features a more aggressive front splitter, new canards, and a chunkier rear spoiler, all designed to enhance its performance on the track.
Audi is developing a track-focused special edition of the RS3, and it's expected to launch early next year. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of high-performance cars.
