Limousin-Périgord Cycling Tour: Sylvain Moniquet secures solo win on stage 2, Ewen Costiou claims overall lead

In the ongoing Tour du Limousin-Périgord, a significant change in the race's dynamics occurred during stage 2, with Ewen Costiou of Arkéa-B&B Hotels emerging as the new race leader.

The stage, which concluded in Grèzes, saw an exciting finish. Sylvain Moniquet of Cofidis clinched the victory, securing his first professional win. However, it was Costiou's consistent performance that propelled him to the top of the overall standings.

Costiou finished third in the stage, eight seconds behind Moniquet, but with Alexandre Delettre of TotalEnergies in second place, just three seconds behind him, the combined time difference was enough to move him into the lead. Delettre, who started the day in the race lead, now finds himself in second place, eight seconds behind Costiou.

Nicolas Prodhomme of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale was the top finisher for his team on Wednesday, crossing the line in fourth place. Unfortunately, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale failed to win the stage or take the race lead, as their rider Thomas Gachignard was dropped during the final 18km of the stage and is no longer in contention for the race lead.

Cyril Barthe of B&B Hotels-Vital Concept-KTM also had a strong performance, finishing sixth in the stage. Arkéa-B&B Hotels had two riders in the top five, with Barthe joining Costiou in the elite group.

The overall standings after stage 2 of the Tour du Limousin-Périgord are as follows:

  1. Ewen Costiou (Arkéa-B&B Hotels)
  2. Alexandre Delettre (TotalEnergies)
  3. Sylvain Moniquet (Cofidis)
  4. Nicolas Prodhomme (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale)
  5. Charles Planet (TotalEnergies)

The new leader of the Tour du Limousin-Périgord after Thomas Gachignard's time gap is Charles Planet. The next stage of the Tour du Limousin-Périgord will take place on Thursday.
