Linz assumes position as head of SPIO
In a significant shift within the German film industry, Helmut PoĆmann, the current managing director of the Spitzenorganisation der Filmwirtschaft (SPIO), has announced his retirement effective July 1, 2025.
Stefan Linz, who joined SPIO's management on the same date in 2021, will take over the reins from PoĆmann after his retirement. Until then, the two will share the management duties, with Linz gradually taking on more responsibilities.
Linz, who is also the managing director of the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft, will continue to serve in this role in addition to his duties at SPIO. Notably, there is limited information available about Linz's prior activities within the film industry before his work with SPIO.
In the meantime, PoĆmann will continue to oversee the German Film Ball, an event he has been instrumental in organising. After his retirement as managing director, he will still be responsible for the organisation of this prestigious event.
The transition of power at SPIO marks the end of PoĆmann's tenure as managing director, a position he has held for an undisclosed period. Linz, on the other hand, is set to take full control of SPIO on July 1, 2025.
This change in leadership is expected to bring new perspectives and ideas to SPIO, shaping the future of the German film industry.
