Lisbon funicular tragedy: Who was the French female casualty among the 16 fatalities?
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a funicular derailment in Lisbon on Wednesday, September 3, has claimed the lives of Blandine Daux and André Bergeron, a beloved Franco-Canadian couple.
The couple, who had been married for 22 years, were spending their last day of vacation in the Portuguese capital. Blandine Daux, a conservator of heritage objects, and André Bergeron, a retired professional from Quebec, were among the 16 victims who perished in the tragic accident.
Blandine, who hailed from the Vosges region in France, and André, a native of Quebec, had two daughters who rushed to Portugal upon hearing the devastating news. Eveline Cantin-Bergeron, one of their daughters, paid tribute to her parents on social media, expressing her deep sorrow and love for them.
André's brother, Eric Bergeron, considered him an idol and is finding it difficult to accept his death. The other daughter of the couple is also devastated by their loss.
Together, Blandine and André worked at the Quebec Conservation Centre, where they dedicated their lives to preserving and protecting historical artifacts.
The agency in charge of the investigation into the cause of the Gloria funicular derailment is expected to publish its initial findings later today. However, the exact cause of the accident remains unknown at this time.
The Franco-Canadian couple's tragic demise has left a void in the lives of their family, friends, and colleagues. Our thoughts and condolences go out to them during this difficult time.
