Live Blog: Germany Cycling Tour 2025 - Covering Today's Exciting Cycling Event

In the heart of Germany, the city of Essen prepares to host the opening stages of the highly anticipated Germany Tour 2025. The tour commences on Thursday, with the first stage beginning at 10:15 AM at Zollverein.

The day before, on Wednesday, the tour will officially be opened by Essen's Mayor Thomas Kufen, along with Hans-Peter Nollund and Maren Hopf, at 4:15 PM. The professional riders will have an opportunity to inspect the course between 3:30 PM and 4 PM before the main event.

The first stage on Thursday will cover a total distance of 202.6 km, leading the riders from Essen's north through Gladbeck, Gelsenkirchen, and Recklinghausen, then on to Hamm, Gütersloh, and Bielefeld, finally ending in Herford. Notably, this stage does not include a neutralized start.

The excitement doesn't stop there. The "kinder Joy of Moving mini tour" with the Bike Parade and the Balance Bike Race will start on Wednesday at 1:45 PM, offering a fun and engaging experience for younger audiences. Additionally, the mobile bike fair "Expo Tour" will open its doors on Wednesday at 12 PM, providing a wealth of cycling-related information and activities for visitors.

The Germany Tour 2025 will feature a star-studded lineup of cyclists, including Wout van Aert (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), Jonathan Milan (Lidl–Trek), Kaden Groves (Alpecin–Deceuninck), former winners Nils Politt and Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates – XRG), Jordi Meeus and Danny van Poppel (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe), Tobias Halland Johannessen and Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility), and local favourites Georg Zimmermann, Phil Bauhaus, Pascal Ackermann, and John Degenkolb, who is making a comeback after injury.

The riders will start on Thursday at 11:40 AM, with the first kilometers being "warmed up" until 12:09 PM on the Hegemannsweg in Gladbeck. As the tour progresses, spectators can look forward to an exhilarating display of cycling prowess, as these top athletes compete for victory in the Germany Tour 2025.
