Live coverage of the 2025 Formula 1 season will be accessible free of charge on television and streaming platforms.
Sky and RTL to Broadcast Formula 1 Races in the 2025 Season
In an exciting development for Formula 1 fans in Germany, Sky Deutschland and RTL will be sharing the broadcasting rights for the upcoming 2025 season. This partnership, which began in 2024, will continue into the new season.
Sky will broadcast all Formula 1 races in the 2025 season, including the seven races that RTL will air. For those who prefer free-to-air television, RTL will be showing seven races live and for free.
The first free-to-air race on German television will be the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, marking the season opener. RTL will then broadcast the Spanish Grand Prix on June 1, the Dutch Grand Prix on August 31, and the Chinese Grand Prix on March 23, all at the times mentioned.
RTL will also air the Canadian Grand Prix on June 15 at 8:00 PM (local time), the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna on May 18 at 3:00 PM, and the Belgian Grand Prix on July 27 at 3:00 PM. The broadcaster will also cover the entire supporting program, including practice sessions and qualifying.
For viewers who wish to watch Formula 1 on Sky, they will need the sports package. The cheapest option currently costs β¬25 per month in the first year and β¬30 per month thereafter. On the other hand, RTL offers a live stream, but it is not free; the Basic subscription is β¬5.99 per month, and the Premium package costs β¬8.99 per month.
Former F1 pilot and world champion, Nico Rosberg, will join selected races as an expert. At Sky, Sascha Roos is responsible for the commentary, supported by Ralf Schumacher or Timo Glock. Heiko WaΓer and Christian Danner returned to RTL as commentators for Formula 1 races in 2024 and will continue in 2025.
It's worth noting that users must consent to display the video from Glomex, potentially allowing data collection in countries outside the EU. Additionally, the Formula 1 calendar for the 2025 season includes 24 races in total.
Sky holds the exclusive rights for Formula 1 until at least 2027, but it's unclear if more races will be shown on free-to-air television afterwards. The broadcaster for the first race in free TV coverage mentioned in Austria besides the season opener in Melbourne is ORF, which will likely broadcast the Melbourne race as well, while other races like the Azerbaijan GP in Baku are also shown on free TV in some regions. The precise city for the first free TV broadcast in Austria is Melbourne.
Lastly, RTL will broadcast the Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 23, 2025, at 5:00 AM (8:00 PM local time, 22 November). This marks the first time Formula 1 will be held in Las Vegas, adding another exciting chapter to the 2025 season.
