Living Quarters Exploration: Jim Avignon's Residence

Jim Avignon, a renowned mural artist, illustrator, and musician based in Berlin, Germany, has shared some fascinating insights into his personal life and upcoming projects.

Originally hailing from New York City, Avignon moved to Berlin in 1988 and has since made the city his home, with a brief sojourn from 2005 to 2012. His current residence is an Altbau flat in Kreuzberg, where he lives with his wife, daughter, and two cats.

Avignon's creative pursuits are as diverse as they are captivating. He is currently working on a book for Buฬˆchergilde Gutenberg, illustrating "Der Schneemann" [1981] by Joฬˆrg Fauser. The illustrations for the book will be on large sheets, and an exhibition is planned for the upcoming book fair in Frankfurt.

Avignon's love for music is evident in his collection of keyboards, some of which are rare and unique. One such keyboard is a Russian copy of the keyboard used by Trio in 'Da Da Da'. He prefers vinyl records with a bit of crackling and scratching, and he has a collection of seven-inch records that he started building during the pandemic.

His artistic flair extends to his fashion sense as well. He bought a hat from a highway gas station in Japan for โ‚ฌ3, adding to his collection of hats that he started wearing due to sun protection while painting in New York.

Jim Avignon's workspace is a reflection of his creativity, with many of the artworks being his own creations. The area around his flat is beautiful, with parks such as Hasenheide and Tempelhofer Feld nearby.

In addition to his work on the book, Avignon is planning museum exhibitions. One is at the Technikmuseum in Berlin, focusing on bicycles, scheduled for November. Another retrospective of his work is planned for a museum in Seoul, set for June.

Avignon also enjoys DJing occasionally, but considers it non-professional. He uses each keyboard for specific qualities when recording music, and sometimes the doors in his flat do not close, leading to unusual situations with his cats.
