Local authorities in the city have organized an event-filled vacation for Ukrainian children

In the heart of Poland, a group of 15 children and teenagers from the Ukrainian territorial community of Bajkiwzi near Ternopil embarked on a unique cultural vacation. Sponsored by generous donations from Dormagen citizens, these young explorers spent a week immersed in the German way of life, from August 28 to September 3.

Their journey culminated in a stop in Krakow on Thursday, September 4, but their memorable week began in Dormagen. Accompanied by two supervisors and an interpreter, these young adventurers, aged 7 to 16, were warmly welcomed by Mayor Lierenfeld.

The week-long program was a delightful blend of educational and recreational activities. The group toured the picturesque town of Zons, honed their creative skills in ceramics and acrylic painting at the VHS studio, and visited the Cologne Zoo, with a detour to the city's iconic cathedral.

Cooking and waffle baking sessions were shared experiences that brought the group closer, fostering friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. The children also enjoyed a reception at the town hall, where they met Mayor Lierenfeld, and a playful afternoon at the children and youth center Hackenbroich.

The final events of the vacation took place at the Norbert Gymnasium Knechtsteden, where they interacted with Ukrainian students, and the Raphaelshaus, their temporary home during their stay in Dormagen. The children were accommodated at the Hotel Ragusa in the market square, offering them a glimpse into the heart of the town.

The organization of this cultural exchange was orchestrated by the municipal department of children, youth, family, and school, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for the Ukrainian visitors. Despite the name of the donation committee that made this journey possible remaining unmentioned in the available search results, the impact of their generosity was evident in the smiles and memories created during this unforgettable week.
