Lois I. Vital, Long-Time Lancaster Resident, Passes Away

Lois I. Vital, a beloved homemaker and 1952 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, passed away on August 24, 2025, at her home in the city.

Born to Clarence C. and Mary A. Greenawalt Hess, Lois was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to James R. Vital, Sr. for 67 years until his passing in 2020. Lois is survived by two daughters, Denise M. Boyer and Vicky J. Riley, a son James R. Vital, Jr., four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Nikki Hess, and two sisters, Judith A. Cooper and Jean M. Landis.

Lois had a passion for reading, gardening, traveling, caring for pets, solving jigsaw puzzles, and collecting angel and cat figurines. She was an avid supporter of the Phillies and Eagles, and her home was always filled with love and laughter.

In her working years, Lois was employed as a housekeeper by Eden Resort in Lancaster. She was also a former member of The Worship Center in Leola.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted. Instead, if desired, contributions can be made in her memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN. The address for donations is 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
