Children's Hospital Los Angeles Announces Significant Staff Reductions

In a challenging and uncertain climate for the healthcare industry, Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) has announced a series of changes aimed at ensuring its continued survival. The hospital, founded in 1901, will be laying off 253 employees, according to CEO Paul S. Viviano.

The reductions at CHLA will affect both team member and management roles, with the total number of employees affected by the changes being 439 (including the 186 employees who are being offered other roles within the hospital). This equates to approximately 5.8% of the hospital's staff.

Speaking about the changes, CEO Viviano stated, "These decisions are never easy, but they are necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of our hospital and our ability to continue providing world-class care to the children and families we serve."

The affected employees are being offered severance packages and assistance with job placement, where possible. CHLA is offering other roles to some of the affected employees, with 186 being offered alternative positions within the hospital.

These changes at CHLA are part of a broader trend in the healthcare industry, as hospitals and healthcare providers across the country grapple with financial pressures and the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the difficult decisions being made, CHLA remains committed to its mission of providing the best possible care to its patients. As CEO Viviano said, "We are deeply grateful for the dedication and hard work of all our employees, and we are doing everything we can to support those who are affected by these changes."

As CHLA moves forward, it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the health and well-being of the children and families it serves, while navigating the uncertain and challenging landscape of modern healthcare.
